We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented and hands-on Payroll Director that also has a strong accounting background. Selected candidate will lead and oversee all of the payroll operations of this dynamic organization. The ideal candidate is a CPA with a background in accounting that has since moved into a role with extensive payroll experience. This payroll management role requires strong leadership skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
We will also consider a strong Senior Payroll Manager that could grow into the role.
Key Responsibilities of the Payroll Director:
Payroll Leadership, Management, Operations & Compliance
- Lead and mentor a payroll team, fostering professional development and high performance.
- Oversee end-to-end payroll operations across multiple countries, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
- Manage payroll integrations during system changes, mergers, and acquisitions.
- Ensure payroll compliance with federal, state, local, and international regulations, including tax laws and SOX controls.
- Handle escalated payroll inquiries, resolve discrepancies, and ensure accurate reporting for complex compensation arrangements, such as equity-based awards and global mobility.
- Collaborate with external providers and internal departments to streamline global payroll reporting and payments.
- Collaborate with HR and finance to mitigate payroll risks and ensure seamless processes.
Accounting, Reporting, System Optimization & Process Improvement
- Coordinate accurate recording of payroll transactions in general ledgers and ensure timely payroll-related tax filings.
- Perform reconciliations and prepare payroll analyses and reports for senior management and audits.
- Support internal and external audits, ensuring compliance and transparency.
- Continuously assess payroll processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and security.
- Implement best practices and technological solutions to enhance payroll workflows and reporting capabilities.
- Identify and initiate cost-saving strategies and process efficiencies.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes and industry trends.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Qualifications of the Payroll Director:
- Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- A Payroll, HR and/or a CPA Certification is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of payroll management experience.
- Strong accounting and reconciliation background.
- Experience in a large, multi-state or global organization.
- Familiarity with benefits administration and HRIS systems.
- Experience with payroll software (e.g., ADP, Workday, etc.) and accounting systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, etc.).
- Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Advanced knowledge of payroll tax laws and regulations.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
Target salary range: $165,000 - $180,000. Benefits include, medical, 401K, generous PTO and much, much more!
